SEVENTY ONE STEPS
After having previously designed and re-designed The Bearded Baker, a popular independent bakery in Edinburgh’s Cannonmills, we returned to work with them again, on their latest venture, Seventy One Steps. Located a few doors along from The Bearded Baker (about 71 steps away!) this new premises houses the bakery kitchen for both units as well as providing a larger cafe area for customers to sit, eat brunch and drink coffee.
The unit, formerly the Shangri-La Chinese restaurant, was in a fairly rough state and needed fully stripped back and re-wired, so it was quite a challenging project from an on site point of view.
The design of the space is fun, light and colourful, taking cues from the brand colours. Dark blues, pastel orange and light oak makes up the colour scheme, seen on standout features such as the fret-cut ‘sprinkles’ barfront and soft edged shelving frame.
