Cowan & sons

In the heart of Raeburn Place lies 'Cowan & Sons' - a Stockbridge institution. The former fishmonger has been home to the local cafe for over 20 years and does a bustling breakfast and lunch trade seven days a week. Having previously designed the space, SPLINTR were invited to redesign the cafe once more, adapting the space to suit the businesses changing needs. With a focus on takeaway, a designated serving area was created at the front window, while a new seating arrangement allowed for more covers, yet feel more spacious. The largely unused pantry as well as some back of house space were removed to open up the floor space even further.

The distressed white and green tiles are the showstopper of this space and elude to the buildings history. We designed, fabricated and fitted bespoke, highly finished furniture which offered a sharp contrast to the deliberately shabby wall texture.
